5-star Alabama RB signee Trey Sanders eager to get to work, focused on 'getting this Heisman'
Trey Sanders’ recruitment came with a ton of hype and the nation’s No. 1 running back prospect in the 2019 recruiting cycle has done nothing to slow down the level of anticipation surrounding his college career thanks to a bold claim he made after announcing his decision to play at Alabama.
If you missed it, Sanders made a bold prediction during his televised commitment on ESPN.
“As a freshman at Alabama I do plan on winning the Heisman,” Sanders said during the early signing period.
Well, Sanders isn’t backing off that prophecy as he looks ahead to his college career. During a recent interview from the Polynesian Bowl with Myckena Guerrero of MaxPreps, Sanders was asked about his excitement regarding his future in Tuscaloosa. That’s when he let the world know he’s sticking to his bold prediction.
“This is my Heisman shot, I ain’t going to lie to you. This is my Heisman chapter,” Sanders replied. “As soon as I leave this, man, I’m probably going to cut off social media and I’m probably going to just focus on getting this Heisman.”
Here is the interview if you want to check it out. Sanders discusses the Heisman Trophy at the end of the video.

With the likes of Tua Tagovailoa, Jerry Jeudy, Najee Harris and a host of other All-American caliber teammates in Tuscaloosa, it’s hard to imagine Sanders would walk into the program in Year 1 and outshine all those familiar faces but he certainly appears to have the confidence to do just that.
Take a look at Sanders’ senior season highlight reel at IMG Academy and judge for yourself if he has what it takes to win a Heisman Trophy.
So is his mentality Heisman over Championship or did I mishear that? Saban will take care of that real quick.
Agreed. I can see Nick setting him straight almost immediately. I mean, props for the kids confidence but Bama is a Team First not Me First school….
True but I’m sure he’s a team player. Every player sets personal goals for themselves for the season, he’s just making his known. Besides, if he actually pulls this off, this could be the greatest called shot since Bambino. Also I think the media will make this bigger than it is. The first call was just a signing day shenanigan. This time he was asked and he’ll probably continue to be asked unfortunately.
I applaud his confidence but looks like his best asset is his speed. BUT he’s coming to the SEC so he’ll get a wake up call on that as well as CNS team 1st philosophy. I love the run game so I hope he does really well.
I agree.. It’s a non issue at the moment. Nothing wrong with having a personal goal.
It’s going to be hard for a back who splits carries to win the Heisman now with the level of QB play in college football. The kid from Wisconsin ran for 2100 yards and didn’t even get invited to the ceremony plus Bama is no longer a feature back team like they were with Mark Ingram and Derrick Henry.
He might want to make sure he can win the starting job first. Maybe he has never heard of Josh Jacobs or Najee Harris.
It will be hard to beat out Josh Jacobs considering he declared for the draft hahaha
Those darn QBs.
And Najee.
Wait, did I hear him answer a question on how he stays so humble, and then follow that up with unprompted Heisman talk? Hey, have big (confidential) personal goals, but humble and watch-me-win-the-Heisman-as-a-freshman just don’t dance together.
Team no red shirt. He will absolutely get burn this coming season. Love the confidence.
Looks like he spells Team with an I.
he ain’t winning no Heisman
the real question is, “who is that girl?”
Very humble team focused guy. He’s the man you want slappping your ass with a wet towel after a shower for sure.
