Reporter shares backstory of viral photo featuring 9-year-old girl meeting her hero Tua Tagovailoa
Tua Tagovailoa’s time with the Crimson Tide may have come to an end but the quarterback will always be a hero to many in the state of Alabama following his outstanding playing career at Alabama.
The latest example of that comes from 9-year-old Abigail Overstreet, who recently had the opportunity to meet Tagovailoa and made the very most of her chance to show Tua how much she appreciates all that the quarterback has accomplished on and off the field.
You may have seen the viral photo below, shared by Rick Karle of WVTM 13 of Birmingham, but may not know the backstory. According to Karle, after attending every Alabama home game for the last four years, Overstreet waited hours for Tagovailoa’s autograph during a recent Crimson Tide signing event at an Alabama mall.
Overstreet latched on to Tua and would not let go, which Tua embraced and kept signing autographs with the little girl clinging on to him. That’s when Mark Ingram asked the girl for a hug.
It’s a great story and can be read in its entirety on Karle’s Facebook page.
