The 2019 NFL season is only through Week 3, but some teams, like the Miami Dolphins, look to be on track to be picking early in the 2020 NFL Draft. After Miami notably unloaded multiple veterans ahead of Week 1, the Dolphins, who appear to lack a quarterback for the long-term future, have been linked to “Tanking for Tua.”

Tagovailoa recently told the Gridiron podcast that he’s aware of the concept, but is only paying attention to the Crimson Tide’s 2019 campaign for a championship.

“I’ve heard of it. Especially from my teammates – A lot of my teammates love to joke about it,” Tagovailoa says in a clip shared on Twitter. “But it’s something that I’m not as much worried about right now. We’ve still got, what, about 10 more games or so to play? So it’s a long season. So we can only focus on the things that we’ve got to do now. When that time comes, then we’ll end up worrying about that later. But I ain’t too focused about all of that right now.”

It’s not the first time Tagovailoa has talked about “Tanking for Tua.” In July, SEC Network host Dari Nowkah got Tagovailoa to (reluctantly) acknowledge the concept after some prying. Tagovailoa will almost certainly be asked about it more as next year’s NFL Draft gets closer.
