Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins (4-1) are off to a record start offensively through the first 5 games of the season.

The Dolphins have racked up 2,568 offensive yards, the most through 5 games since the 2000 St. Louis Rams. With the prolific beginning to the season, it also puts the former Alabama quarterback on pace to surpass Peyton Manning’s single-season passing yards record (5,477 in 2013).

While Tagovailoa is proud of his success so far during his 4th pro season, individual accolades would pale in comparison to guiding the Dolphins to their first Super Bowl title in 5 decades.

“Sure, that would definitely be cool,” Tagovailoa said of possible breaking Manning’s mark. “If we don’t get to where we want to as a team, none of that would mean anything to me. But along the way, if we could get to where we want to get to as a team, and those statistics could follow in helping win games, I’d be very happy.”

Flanked with the fastest playmakers in the league, Tagovailoa has passed for 1,614 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions with a QBR of 75.6. Tagovailoa currently has the second-best odds of winning MVP, behind only Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, according to ESPN.

Tagovailoa and the Dolphins will host the winless Carolina Panthers (0-5) in Week 6.
