The entire college football world was tuning into Nick Saban’s press conference Monday.

During Saturday’s 39-10 win over Missouri, QB Tua Tagovailoa went down with a knee injury (video here). Entering Saturday’s game, it was known that Tagovailoa had a sprained knee, and he appeared to re-injure it against Mizzou.

ESPN reported during the game that Tagovailoa did indeed re-injure it, but Nick Saban said after the game that Tagovailoa could have gone back into the game if he had to. Under no circumstance was that going to happen, we assume.

On Monday, Saban spoke to the media, and updated the status of his star QB ahead of Saturday’s rivalry game against Tennessee.

“Tua has not missed a day of practice. He could have gone back in the game, like I said,” Saban told reporters. “He’s going to practice today. He’s probably better this week than he was last week. We’ll see how it goes in practice and we’ll continue to evaluate him to get him ready to play in the game.”

Several have expressed that Saban should explore sitting Tagovailoa against Tennessee to give him more time to heal during the bye week before playing LSU on November 3.

Through seven weeks, Tagovailoa has thrown for 1,760 yards, 21 TDs and no INTs, and he’s the leading Heisman Trophy candidate.
