Tua Tagovailoa wears surprise Dolphins jersey to first press conference
Tua Tagovailoa surprised media and fans when he showed up to his first Miami Dolphins press conference wearing a Ryan Fitzpatrick jersey.
That was obviously a big hit to media members, and the young quarterback called it an “ice breaker.”

Fitzpatrick, of course, is the team’s veteran quarterback and the one Tagovailoa will have to beat out if he wants to become the starter, but by Tagovailoa wearing his competitor’s jersey, it showed that the duo have become quite close.
“Fitz is very personable as well,” Tagovailoa said during the media session. “To start it off with Fitz, a very very down to earth person. Very humble. … It’s mind boggling how down to earth he is. It’s one of those things where ‘this guy gets it.’ … Fitz has done a wonderful job in helping try to shape and mold me. It’s been really cool.”
Tagovailoa raved about his teammate Fitzpatrick, and he loved getting to meet the veteran quarterback’s family over Zoom.
Dolphins reporter Joe Schad shared some footage of Tagovailoa at Dolphins practice.

I wouldn’t expect any less from Tua. He’s a stand up dude. Fitz knows it’s only a matter of time though lol
Absolutely. Tua made reference to Fitz being a guy who gets it, but this article shows Tua does too. And while I’m sure Fitz isn’t going to just hand him the starting job, he’s got enough class to help the young man out, even if it means he’s just speeding up his trip to the bench. These kinda fellas are easy to root for.
Miami fans will soon find that Tua can put the ball right on the spot! Humble kid, too.
Wish him the best. He is a class act.
