Tua Tagovailoa’s father, Galu, holds a prominent place in the family, and that is especially true when his son makes such an important life decision as leaving Alabama for the NFL Draft.

Galu discussed the situation in a phone interview with Simone Eli of CBS-42 after Tua announced on Monday his decision to move on from Tuscaloosa. The family has been through a lot in recent years, including moving from Hawaii to Alabama, and watching Tua’s career and the championship highs, and injury lows. Galu said whatever decision brings Tua peace in his heart and mind is the best decision from the Lord.

“Making this decision was the toughest thing I’ve ever been a part of,” he said. “… I’ll be honest with you, Alabama is a special place, a very special place, and mainly his relationship with Coach (Nick Saban).”

Now Alabama and the Tagovailoa family focuses their college attention on the younger brother, Taulia, who is set to be in a quarterback competition with incumbent Mac Jones and incoming freshman Bryce Young.

“With Lia, he’s not really worried about anything, his focus was on his brother and supporting him,” Galu said. “I’m trying to tell him to relax and he’s looking forward to this season to compete … competition is his alley, he’s always been like that.”
