Nick Saban won’t be on the sideline for Alabama in its annual Iron Bowl matchup with Auburn on Saturday due to a coronavirus diagnosis.

The Tide lost last year to the Tigers to see their College Football Playoff hopes fully extinguished. This year, though, they are ranked No. 1 in the initial Playoff rankings unveiled on Tuesday with a game against Arkansas remaining on their regular-season schedule after Saturday. There’s also one against LSU that remains to be scheduled.

On Thursday, FOX college football analyst Urban Meyer unveiled his “Coaches of the Week”, putting Saban at No. 3 behind Northwestern’s Pat Fitzgerald and Cincinnati’s Luke Fickell. The Crimson Tide’s offense has been clicking all season long, but their defense appears to be rounding into form as it has allowed just 20 points in its previous 3 games.

That’s a far cry from a unit that gave up 48 points to Ole Miss on Oct. 10, and a possible warning sign to the rest of the country if they are indeed able to make the Playoff as expected.

Alabama and Auburn kick off from Tuscaloosa on Saturday at 2:30 pm CT on CBS.
