During the Crimson Tide’s 52-6 pasting of Southern Cal, Trojans defensive end Jabari Ruffin committed a cringe-worthy move — stomping on the groin of Alabama defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick.

The officials caught the reprehensible act, and thus Ruffin was unceremoniously jettisoned to the locker room.

On Sunday, Ruffin’s long-term punishment was announced by Southern Cal head coach Clay Helton.

Ruffin will be suspended for only the first half against the Trojans’ next opponent in Utah State. He also will be writing a letter of apology (presumably to both Fitzpatrick and Alabama).

Does the punishment truly fit the crime in this scenario?
