Alabama baseball got its season off to a great start against McNeese State, and the Crimson Tide can thank Zane Denton on Saturday for a walk-off blast to seal the series win.

Denton, a sophomore infielder from Brentwood, Tennessee, launched a towering drive to right field to give Alabama a 4-3 victory on Saturday after the Tide trailed 3-1 in the eighth inning. In the series opener on Friday, Alabama won 10-6 to open the season.

Denton’s game-winning home run was setup by a two-run jack from outfielder Owen Diodati.

The teams wrap up the series at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

The Crimson Tide had a lot of potential coming into this season as they began the year ranked No. 25, and have high expectations following a 16-1 start a season ago. Coach Brad Bohannon led the Crimson Tide to a 14-game winning streak to start the season in 2020, which was the second-best win streak to start a new season in program history and the longest winning streak overall under Bohannon.

The 2021 Crimson Tide brought back six positional starters and 10 total pitchers. Alabama overall returned 20 letterwinners while it lost 12 from the 2020 squad.
