ARKANSAS JUNIOR QB BRANDON ALLEN

Stats: 178-of-316, 56.3 percent, 2,125 passing yards, 18 TDs, 5 INTs, 11 sacks, 128.5 rating

Big-time game: His best game came in a losing effort against Georgia. The game started out pretty rough against the Bulldogs, but Allen did complete 28-of-45 for 296 yards and three touchdowns. He had two pretty costly picks, though.

Not his best effort: Allen didn’t really have a bad game this year. He didn’t throw a whole lot of passes and really took care of the ball. Only throwing five picks in 316 pass attempts is pretty impressive. One of those interceptions was pretty bad: Arkansas had a chance to win the game against Alabama and he made a bonehead play that resulted in a pick.

Improvements: He needs to improve his play-action passing. Play-action is an art, and with the running backs and offensive line that the Razorbacks have, he should be able to find guys that are wide open. He has the arm talent to make every throw and showed that he can take care of the ball, so maybe we’ll see a little more passing out of Arkansas next year.

Strengths: He’s very football savvy. Whenever you only throw five picks in an entire season, you know where to go with the ball. He didn’t force any throws that I saw this season (other than that Bama pick).

Weakness: He struggled a little this year with his accuracy. In a run-heavy, play-action offense, you should be able to have a pretty high completion percentage. He will need to hone his skills and work on his accuracy. With another year and a long offseason, he’ll be able to improve.

Overall: In an offense that isn’t exactly quarterback-driven, Allen played very well. He only threw five picks, which was near the bottom of the league in terms of interceptions. I think he’ll have a very solid season again next year. He can make all the throws and has the arm talent to be successful. We’ll see if he will get more opportunities to throw.
