Arkansas kept its bowl hopes alive after outlasting Florida in overtime in The Swamp. The Razorbacks beat Florida 39-36 which snapped a six-game losing streak.

The team went up 14-0 in the first quarter, but Florida later got back into the game and tied things up before the second quarter.

It was a shootout from then on. Both teams continued to trade blows as neither wanted to give in. The Razorbacks stay alive and move to 3-6 on the year.

Here’s how the Hogs’ stock looks with Week 11 around the corner:

Player of the Week: KJ Jefferson

KJ Jefferson carried the team on his back in the 39-36 win. He had 255 yards passing with 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. Jefferson was also 2nd on the team in rushing with 92 yards.

Florida settled for a field goal during its first possession in overtime Jefferson, meanwhile, hit Tyrone Broden in the end zone to complete the game-winning score.

After being limited to just 97 yards passing in the Mississippi State game, Jefferson bounced back and showed that he still has what it takes to be a starting quarterback in the SEC.

Newcomer of the Week: Andrew Armstrong

Andrew Armstrong may be a new name to Arkansas fans this season, but he is a veteran of college football. The redshirt senior and Texas A&M-Commerce transfer led Arkansas in receiving yards Saturday.

Armstrong didn’t have that many catches, but he made the most of his opportunities, catching 3 passes for 103 yards receiving.

Armstrong leads all Arkansas wideouts this season with 623 yards receiving and 4 touchdowns. After losing Matt Landers and Jadon Haselwood, Armstrong has proven himself to be a top option for Jefferson.

Unfortunately, Armstrong had to leave the game with a scary injury in the back of the end zone to start the 4th quarter.

Thankfully, Armstrong provided this update following the game:

Biggest Surprise: Interim OC Kenny Guiton scores 39 in debut

Arkansas fired Dan Enos after a 6-game losing streak and it looks like the move paid off on Saturday.

Interim offensive coordinator Kenny Guiton stepped in, and his offense debuted with 481 total yards and 39 points. Changing coordinators sometimes isn’t the easiest transition, but the Arkansas offense finally looked like it was supposed to.

The Razorbacks will need Guiton to continue dialing up these kinds of games if they want to reach a bowl game. Auburn, FIU, and Missouri stand in the way of Arkansas’ postseason.

Arkansas had success in running and passing the football as the offense looked solid.

Biggest Concern: Turnover issues

The Arkansas offense looked much better with Guiton at the helm, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t faults. The Razorbacks only had 2 turnovers, but it could have been more if the ball bounced Florida’s way on a couple of fumbles.

Jefferson had 1 interception and fumbled the ball twice although Arkansas fell on it both times. A.J. Green fumbled the ball which gave Florida prime field position.

While Guiton breathed some new life into the offense, turnovers are never a good sign. Arkansas ranks fifth in the SEC in turnovers per game (1.2) heading into Week 11.

The Razorbacks face an Auburn defense next who averages the most takeaways per game in the SEC with 1.7.

Developing Trend: Defensive instability

The first quarter started off great for Arkansas. The Razorbacks got off to a 14-0 lead thanks to a scoop and score. Unfortunately, Florida tied things up right before the quarter ended.

Although Arkansas lost to Mississippi State, the defense still held their own. Fast forward to the next game after a bye week and the defense gives up 36 points.

Arkansas cannot afford to become one-dimensional in this regard.

Key Stat: 8.2 yards per pass

Arkansas was able to dismantle the Florida secondary with 8.2 yards per pass. The running game had success, but airing the ball out is what made the Hogs versatile.

Arkansas’ offense ranks last in the total yards per play at 4.9, but there was finally some life on Saturday. The Guiton era at OC produced some results in a tough environment.

Auburn is middle of the pack when it comes to yards allowed per game so fans could see more of the same in Week 11 if Guiton’s offense works according to plan.

First impression about Week 11: Hogs welcome Tigers to Fayetteville

Arkansas plays an Auburn team that comes in on a 2-game winning streak in Week 11. The Tigers have beaten Mississippi State and Vanderbilt in their last 2 games.

One of Auburn’s best players as of late has been Jarquez Hunter. Hunter has had 327 yards on the ground in his last 2 games and is red hot.

Arkansas was able to end a 6-game losing streak to Auburn last season at Jordan Hare Stadium.

Kickoff will be on Nov. 11 at 4 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
