Arkansas QB Cole Kelley announces intent to transfer from program
Arkansas starting quarterback for its 2018 season opener won’t be on the roster in 2019.
Redshirt sophomore Cole Kelley tweeted Monday that he will transfer from the Razorbacks program, bringing an end to his time in Fayetteville.

Kelley began the season as Arkansas’ starter under center but gave way to junior Ty Storey just three weeks into the year. He played in certain packages as a rushing quarterback and in relief of an injured Storey, but freshman Connor Noland was also in the mix.
Kelley appeared in nine games this season, completing 35 of 67 passes for 455 yards, five touchdowns and five interceptions. The 6-foot-7, 258-pounder from Lafayette, Louisiana, also gained 73 yards and scored three times on 28 carries.
Storey and a fairly packed quarterback room will return in 2019 as the Razorbacks try to move on from the program’s worst-ever season, a 2-10 campaign in coach Chad Morris’ first season. But Kelley won’t be part of it.
All sorts of hogs going to market
Morris is cleaning house. I’m sure he offered them a position change or something that would allow them to continue with the team in a different role, but it was no secret that Morris needed a bunch of players to transfer in order to bring in the recruits he has for this year. After the last game of the season, Morris said he would need at least 4 more to transfer to make room for the new recruits. He got those 4 with Kelley leaving now. We only had 25 scholarships and Morris is recruiting 29, so someone has to go.
was hoping the steamboat was going to move to TE.
I agree. I thought he’d make a TE and then you could have a TE throwback pass to the QB or something like that.
I think TE is a money position in the NFL if you can learn how to block. You might not touch the ball a ton, but if you can be a reliable possession receiver that makes getting 1st downs a lot easier for your team, you’ve got a long career ahead of you.
Funny how Arkansas won as many games with Kelley as a starter last season than they won this entire season – yet he can’t play for this coach.
Different system. Takes more than a few months to switch to a system that’s a 180 from the one you’ve been trained in for years. They even came out and said they were only able to install %30-%40 of the new system…which is impressive given that we were still able to hang about 30 on Bama. Promising for the future, I believe.
Explain to me what’s “funny” about this? Guess I’m not following your logic.
You beat me to the punchline 66. I really wish all the haters would follow the guys transferring and pollute someone else’s bandwagon. I hope they have enough room for londonhawg when they go.
The problem with you guys is you can’t give legit answers to questions or don’t want to face facts when they are laid on the table. Your just say wait a few years while teams like N Texas St come here and blow us out at home…..I guess ya’ll live for games like that ?? If it takes soooooo long for these kids to adapt to a new system whats makes you think next years class can adapt in one season ??? Wait , I got an idea, lets give him a couple years so the kids can adapt and he can get his players in here . I’m sure you will be beating the drum when we win twice as many next year as we did this year…..and maybe a conference game …..wooo hoooo !!
Does anyone know how many conference games we won the last two years…….one…..one…..with 15 loses…….look around boys, I’m not the only one tired of losing. The chat sites are changing their posting rules, not because of me, but because of all the “love” being shown for CCM………I just call it like I see it.
@londonhawg No, I acknowledge the reality. That being that time is what s vitally needed. Joke all you want, but the fact remains that Morris and co. need time to recruit the talent needed and train them up. Look, I can relate to the feeling that, yea, it sucks to be told that…again. But as Iv e stated before, this isn’t Bielema ‘s 7th year with his troup. It’s a new staff that runs things in a SIGNIFICANTLY different way; totally opposite, in some regards. Styles these guys needed more time than they were given to learn and train into.
With a first season of gruelingly difficult growing pains and having a second off season on the way, maybe we will be pleasantly surprised next season. Perhaps not drastically, but you never know.
I have faith in this coaching staff and the players. Total faith. As such, and in observation of the real facts as well, I wholly believe this staff will prove itself to the faithful – and the unfaithful, such as yourself – in due time…which is gonna be sooner than later.
Go Chad Morris, Go Joe Craddock, Go Chief Chavis, and Go Hogs.
Woo Pig.
Of course it’s a different system Hogman and one that proved highly ineffective regardless of how much was installed. I recall OC Cheney making the same claim before he moved on. And I’m going to disagree with you regarding it’s promise for the future. Ask Gus and the Auburn fans how that future looks…
And Early…”funny” is sarcasm. What’s “funny” is that we brought in a high school coach who spouted off a lot of slogans…”hammer down,” “full tilt boogie” ad nauseam and he delivered an offense that wasn’t close to the offense that Enos/Bielema ran, with Cole Kelley starting 4 games last season with that offense. Just look at the final two games as an example. Last season we lost on the final possessions against Miss St and Mizzou while this season, running a high school system we were blown out in both – with 6 total points!
And you can expect the same next year. This coach is in way over his head.
Interesting. I figured Ty would be the one to leave. Well, happy trails, Cole; it’s been good, man. Wish you could had the opportunity to do more while you were here, but I appreciate what you did get to do.
I was thinking Ty would fly as well 66. And it could still happen…. SDS kinda tended to bash Ty and Cole both, which was kinda ignorant on their part.Ty or Cole either one playing in CCM’s system is like Frank Sinatra singing for Metallica. How can anyone know how good either of these guys could be until they can play in a system that fits their skill sets..Hope Cole lands somewhere that his talents can flourish….
Ty wants to go into coaching and would like to be a GA at Arkansas, he is already working on a Masters.
