Sam Pittman may have wanted Barry Lunney Jr. to stay on in Fayetteville but a tough choice had to be made by the longtime Razorback assistant coach.

Despite his love for the program, Lunney has moved on with his fellow former Razorback coach Jeff Traylor to Texas San Antonio. Traylor was announced as the new head coach at UTSA on Monday and Lunney was announced as the program’s new offensive coordinator on Tuesday.

The former Arkansas quarterback has been on the coaching staff in Fayetteville for seven seasons coaching tight ends. Despite the ups and downs of the program during that time, the tight end position has remained a strength of the team regardless of which offensive system the team was using.

For a moment, it appeared the Razorback program may be turned over to Lunney on a full-time basis but that speculation ended when Arkansas announced Sam Pittman as the new Razorback head coach.

Following the firing of Chad Morris, Lunney served as the interim head coach in Fayetteville and coached out the final two games of the season for the Razorbacks.
