Barry Odom and Arkansas learned a lesson during the COVID-19 season of cross-training players at multiple positions to add depth and fill holes in case of a last-minute absence. The Razorbacks continue to do that, and this fall camp, it rings true especially in the defensive secondary.

Defensive linemen Eric Gregory and Nico Davillier are among the players who work at both end and tackle. Drew Sanders is currently paired as a starter at linebacker with Bumper Pool in the team’s 4-2 and 3-2 fronts, but he is also training some with the defensive ends, Whole Hog Sports noted.

“We’re making really good progress,” Odom said. “I like to this point where guys are moving around at a lot of different spots. We are cross-training guys at a lot of different positions.”

Odom continues to be inspired and enjoys the work situation he has at Arkansas, between Sam Pittman and the entire athletics department. He also enjoys the overall job description of being a coach.

“I like coaching them. They like to practice. They want to be great. … I really like where we are. My players, I can’t wait for 2:15, and we get a chance to see them again. You talk about being a coach and a teacher and an educator. It’s not just about football. It’s about life lessons and the opportunity to make an impact on young men from the age at when you start recruiting them to when they graduate, and hopefully you turn that into the next 40 years of their life.”
