Earlier this month, former Arkansas coach Bret Bielema filed a motion to keep details of his buyout with the Razorback Foundation private.

However, Arkansas attorney general Leslie Rutledge denied that motion recently, which clears the way for the info to be made public.

According to NWAOnline.com, Rutledge’s opinion said public interest in the matter dictates that the terms of the buyout should be revealed:

“It seems beyond question that the public’s interest in the record at issue is substantial,” Rutledge’s opinion says. “The subject matter has been intensely scrutinized by the media. And there is a very high level of public interest in documents bearing on the former employee’s departure from the University — a level of interest that is understandable given his prominence and the importance of the matter to the local community.”

According to the report, the buyout deal was set at $15.4 million, though it is still unclear if the former coach will receive the full amount from the Razorback Foundation:

Bielema’s deal with the Razorback Foundation set his buyout at $15.4 million if the university fired him in 2017, according to a copy of the agreement released late Thursday under the state’s open-records law.

That is in addition to the buyout he received from the university itself, it would appear. Therefore, the former coach will be set financially for years to come.
