Arkansas held its first fall scrimmage Saturday, totaling 170-175 snaps.

Chad Morris met with the media afterwards and said this year’s first scrimmage was much better than last year’s.

SMU transfer Ben Hicks and Texas A&M transfer Nick Starkel continue battling it out for the Hogs starting quarterback job, and up to this point, Hicks has had the upper hand having been in Morris’ system before and gone through spring practice.

However, with Starkel’s experience and big arm, the quarterback race is far from over.

Morris was asked about the quarterbacks’ performances during the scrimmage.

“Offensively, it starts with our quarterbacks and they all four responded today,” Morris said, via WholeHogSports.com. “We started the day with Ben Hicks. He did some good things today, and Nick Starkel got in and did some good things. Both of those guys had a couple of touchdowns today. Trey Knox had a touchdown grab early on from John Stephen Jones. A lot of things to clean up.”

Morris said he’s pleased with where all four signal callers are, including backups John Steven Jones and KJ Jefferson.

Arkansas opens up the 2019 season Portland State on August 31.
