Feleipe Franks is ready and eager to prove himself.

This level of confidence from an Arkansas quarterback is a nice change of pace following a pair of disastrous showings in back-to-back seasons but Franks and the vast majority of the current Razorback coaching staff had nothing to do with those results.

While the program on The Hill was struggling, Franks was helping to revive Florida’s program and Sam Pittman was a key piece in all the success the Georgia program has experienced in recent seasons.

Now the two have joined forces to bring a new sense of confidence and swagger back to Fayetteville and that’s something that was put on display during Franks’ recent media availability.

When asked about opening up against an all too familiar foe in Georgia, Franks offered up this response.

“Our team is going to be ready. I think we’re slowly implementing things, for Georgia. But at the same time, our main focus is learning our offense, the ins and outs of it and having production with that before we start doing too much other,” Franks said. “But I think we’re implementing it at a good pace right now and these guys are really motivated and really excited for our first game, so I think we should have fun.”

That’s a veteran answer right there.

Following that response, Franks was asked for an update on the progress made in camp. So far, the veteran signal-caller has seen a weekly progression from this Razorback team.

“It’s going well. I think me personally, I’m a little over critical sometimes – not only myself but just perfection within a play. I think we’re doing really good, we’re taking steps, we’re stacking good practices on top of good practices,” Franks continued. “I think that’s all that matters right now is just like you said, how’s that execution going?

“That’s what we need to be focused on right now. Can we execute every play at a high level? And right now, I think that we’re getting better and better each day.”

It may feel like 10 years ago at this point, but Franks suffered a season-ending injury right around a year ago in his last game with Florida back on Sept. 14 during the 2019 season.

When asked about his recovery and if he has any hesitancy about returning to the field for his first action, Franks not only sounded confident, he expressed his belief that he’s already proven to himself that he’s made a full recovery and is ready to see the field.

“I think my confidence is through the roof right now,” Franks replied. “We had a scrimmage this past Friday. I felt wonderful, 100 percent. I take, me personally, I take it personally, every rep treating it like a game rep.

“So to say that when game time comes, that’s gonna be my first game rep, I think that’d be far from it. We’ve tried to – and that’s not just me but everybody in our offense – taking reps as if we’re in the game, so when Saturday’s come, they come easy.

“I feel really good. I feel healthy, I feel awesome. I’m ready to go out there and compete again ready to play some football again.”

When Arkansas landed Franks, they knew they were getting an experienced SEC quarterback. What the coaching staff may not have known was they were getting a signal-caller with a ton of confidence eager to prove himself on the field.

If nothing else, that should give Razorback fans confidence that it’s a new era in Fayetteville.
