John Calipari has flipped a 5-star prospect from his former team.

Karter Knox committed to Kentucky back on March 9. With Calipari leaving Kentucky to become the head coach at Arkansas, Knox has decided to play college ball in Fayetteville.

Knox, rated 5-stars and the No. 22 prospect overall for 2024 on the 247Sports Composite, took to social media to announce his pledge to the Razorbacks. Knox also mentioned Kenny Payne, who has joined Cal’s Arkansas staff as an assistant, in his decision to commit to the Hogs.

“The last two weeks, I’ve spent time with my family to figure out my next steps,” Knox wrote in a posted note.
“I’ve decided to commit to the University of Arkansas and play for Coach Calipari.

“Throughout my whole recruiting process, Coach Cal always said he wants to make me a pro, and I trust that he will do that for me at Arkansas. I also have a great relationship with KP, so getting to play for two coaches I admire is a dream come true. I’m looking forward to getting there, getting to work and bringing a championship to Fayetteville.”

Knox was a Kentucky legacy commitment. His older brother Kevin Knox Jr. played for Calipari at Kentucky. Kevin, though, also played for Payne with the New York Knicks.

Calipari turning to familiar faces to build 2024 roster

Calipari is less than two weeks into being the Arkansas head coach. It’s no surprise that Calipari is turning to familiar faces to build his first Razorback roster.

Calipari’s first Arkansas commitment came via the transfer portal. A week ago, Zvonimir “Big Z” Ivisic announced on social media that he will be following Cal to Fayetteville.

Knox gives Arkansas two commitments – one incoming freshman and one transfer. Calipari, with the help of Payne and the rest of his staff, figures to be busy over the next few weeks assembling the rest of the roster.
