John Calipari admitted to some brief confusion in the midst of Arkansas’s stunning upset win over Kentucky on Saturday night.

Calipari, who was making his return to Rupp Arena after spending the previous 15 seasons in Lexington, said he thought his team was losing because he instinctively looked at “Kentucky” on the score board during the game.

“I’ve got to be honest with you, and Adou said he did the same thing,” Calipari said. “I looked up a couple times and I thought we were losing because I kept looking at ‘Kentucky’ instead of ‘Arkansas.’ I told them I did that and Adou said, ‘coach, I did the same thing.’

“It was 15 years here.”

Arkansas carried a 1-point lead into halftime and then dominated the second half. The Razorbacks out-scored the Wildcats 43-34 after the break and successfully held them at arm’s length in crunch time.

It was a trio of former Wildcats who keyed Arkansas’s victory. Adou Thiero led the way with 21 points, but DJ Wagner chipped in 17 points and 8 assists. Big man Zvonimir Ivisic also had 14 points in the victory.

After a whirlwind week for Calipari, his Arkansas program will head back out on the road to face Texas on Wednesday night.
