Arkansas received an injury scare in its game against Alabama as K.J. Jefferson was forced to leave after taking a big hit. He would later briefly return but later left for good and was replaced by Cade Fortin.

Sam Pittman on Saturday that it was a “wait-and-see” situation for Jefferson as the Razorbacks take on Mississippi State on Saturday. Fortin’s entrance raised a few eyebrows as Malik Hornsby had been listed as the backup, with Pittman not providing much detail behind his reasoning other than saying that Hornsby will “be fine” after meeting with him on Monday, a day after the signal-caller removed references to Arkansas from his social media pages.

Whether Fortin or Hornsby starts in place of Jefferson if he can’t go remains to be seen, but both are hard at work on the practice field.

“Just being at practice, both of them have been super confident in the huddle and been confident calling plays, and we’ve been imitating the loud noise just to get them settled in for the game Saturday,” wide receiver Ketron Jackson Jr. said on Tuesday.

Jackson was later asked what Fortin was like in the huddle and what it’s been like to catch passes from the redshirt senior.

“He’s very confident and I’m very confident in him, and we’ll be on the same page,” Jackson said. “We got our time in [together] in the offseason, so I feel great about the timing part of that, but I feel like he’s a great quarterback, he’s very calm in the pocket, and he’s going to be great for us Saturday.”
