Last we saw Texas A&M DC John Chavis, his defense was giving up 55 points in a loss to Wake Forest in the Belk Bowl.

However, he’s still being strongly linked to the open defensive coordinator position at Arkansas under new coach Chad Morris, though nothing is official yet.

On Tuesday, ESPN’s Chris Low joined “Sports Talk with Bo Mattingly” to explain why, even with the struggles Chavis’s defenses have had in recent years, he’d be a good fit in Fayetteville:

“Listen, he knows the SEC,” he said. “Players like playing for him. He’s a guy who gets a lot out of his players, he’s a tough guy, but he’s a guy who knows when to give one of those kicks in the rear and when to give a pat on the back.

“When you look at what Chad needs there, with the offense he’s going to run, I think John Chavis would be a really good hire.”

It remains to be seen if Arkansas actually goes through with the hire, but the rumors are swirling and Chavis could be the guy for Morris and the Razorbacks.
