New Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman is hiring an assistant who he has quite a history with.

According to FootballScoop, Pittman is adding Hutchinson Community College head coach Rion Rhoades to his Razorbacks staff. It is reportedly expected that Rhoades will coach linebackers at Arkansas.

That would make sense, as Rhoades is a former linebacker who played at Hutchinson CC. His coach back then? Pittman, who recruited Rhoades and brought him to the school in 1993.

Rhoades has been the head coach at Hutchinson CC since 2007, going 99-50 in his career leading the Blue Dragons. Pittman was only the head coach there for two seasons, from 1992-93, before moving on to become an assistant at Northern Illinois.

This is the first time Pittman will be a head coach since his brief stint at Hutchinson CC. He’s been an assistant at various schools from 1994-2019, spending the past four seasons at Georgia.

It will be interesting to see if Pittman brings in more familiar faces as he continues to assemble his staff heading into the 2020 season.
