KJ Jefferson has an opportunity to come back to Arkansas for another year, take his chances in pro football or other potential opportunities.

What Jefferson decides on remains to be seen, said Arkansas coach Sam Pittman at his press conference on Wednesday.

“Going into this season, we thought this would be his last year, but I don’t know where he stands right now,” Pittman said, noting he hasn’t had a concrete discussion with Jefferson yet about his future.

Through 10 games so far this season, Jefferson has 1,918 passing yards, 16 touchdowns and 8 interceptions.

With a 3-7 record and 2 games left on the schedule, Pittman said there will be “plenty of time sit down and talk about it” with Jefferson. Pittman noted he anticipates a handful of seniors to take advantage of an extra year of eligibility, or the test the waters in the transfer portal.

As the leader and the face of the Razorbacks, Pittman is sure that this season has been disappointing for Jefferson.

“But if his actions in practice and leadership on the team are indicative of how he feels, he feels good,” Pittman said. “The problem all year has been we never really got into a rhythm, either with running the football or giving him time to throw. I’m sure that’s been very frustrating to him. It’s been frustrating for all of us.”

Pittman said Jefferson’s toughness and determination for Arkansas showed when his left hand was bleeding in the team’s loss to Auburn over the weekend.

“He did not want to come out, he didn’t ask to come out,” Pittman said. “It tells you what he feels about the program and where he wants to finish strong. I’m really proud of him.”

Arkansas (3-7) hosts FIU this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
