Sam Pittman likes the new changes made to the transfer portal window.

Starting this season, players will have 45 days to transfer rather than 60 days. The change impacts all sports differently, and for football the 45 days will start day after the College Football Playoff teams are announced.

Pittman thinks the changes were necessary because the old timetable gave players too much time. He believes that most players know they’re going to transfer before the seasons over, so they don’t need a full 2 months to think about it.

“Yeah, I’d take it down, if it was up to me, I’d take it down lower than that,” Pittman said. “I think it’s headed in the right direction. I think kids know if they’re going to transfer during the season, let alone having to have a month to decide. I think you’re asking for some problems, especially if they go home and they’re away from us on campus. I do think we’re heading in the right direction. I think the confusion on this, a little bit, is the windows open and close, that’s not necessarily true. It’s open to get into the portal. The recruiting of that can be a long time. I think we’re headed in the right direction, I’m happy we are, but I still think the length of getting into the portal is too long.”

The transfer portal has made a huge impact on college football, and Pittman has felt that first hand. Last season, Arkansas lost 25 players in the transfer portal. Perhaps the new changes will see less players transferring.

But Pittman can’t spend too much time thinking about the transfer portal as he prepares for another tough game. Arkansas takes on Ole Miss on Saturday and is looking to avoid a 4th-straight loss.
