Sam Pittman revealed something very interesting about star defensive back Dwight McGlothern Monday afternoon.

The Arkansas head coach told reporters that the preseason first-team selection was indeed healthy for Arkansas’ Week 8 loss to Mississippi State after suffering a concussion against Texas A&M earlier in the year. However, McGlothern did not see the field against the Bulldogs.

Pittman continued the already odd remark by saying McGlothern is “trying to work his way into playing time.”

Here’s the full quote:

“He was full-go. He’s still trying to work his way into playing time, but he was full-go. He was able to play last week, it’s just right now, he’s not starting for us.”

This is bizarre at face value. McGlothern is one of Arkansas’ best defenders on an already stout unit. If he’s healthy, that’s a guy you want in the ballgame, especially against an evenly-matched opponent such as the Bulldogs.

Now, remember that Arkansas lost that game 7-3. McGlothern’s presence in the secondary a few Saturdays ago would not have been the difference between a 2-6 record and a 3-5 one.

We’ll see what the Razorbacks do regarding McGlothern heading into Week 10 against a good Florida pass offense.
