The Arkansas Razorbacks have looked awful this year, losing to teams like Colorado State and North Texas.

New coach Chad Morris is trying to completely overhaul Arkansas’s philosophy on offense, and so far the going has been slow.

Should Morris get a mulligan for this year? ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg joined “Sports Talk with Bo Mattingly” on Tuesday afternoon and said he thinks Morris should indeed be forgiven for this season:

“I think the combination of what Chad Morris inherited and the dramatic shift in the scheme, especially on offense, makes this year a mulligan,” Rittenberg says. “Obviously, it’s not going well. Arkansas fans are frustrated — they want it to go better. But when you look at it from my viewpoint on the outside, this is going to be a rough year and I think he needs some time to get his system in place, his players in place.

“Clearly there has been a drop-off in recruiting, especially on the defensive side. I think they’re holding up OK sometimes on that end, but I do think when you look at Morris and what some of the other first-year coaches have inherited, he has that bare cupboard excuse a little bit more than a guy like Willie Taggart or Kevin Sumlin.”

Arkansas takes on Texas A&M in Arlington this weekend. That game could get ugly, too.
