What Sam Pittman said after Arkansas defeated Bobby Petrino, Missouri State
Sam Pittman and Arkansas narrowly defeated Bobby Petrino and Missouri State Saturday 38-27.
Petrino’s team actually led the Hogs 17-0 before Arkansas came roaring back. In fact, Petrino’s club led Arkansas 27-17 before the Hogs offense and special teams got rolling late in the second half.
When they needed it most, Rocket Sanders delivered for the Razorbacks, as he took it to the house for a 73-yard touchdown to cut Missouri State’s lead to 27-24. Bryce Stephens then returned a punt for an 82-yard touchdown.
It was all Hogs after that.
Following the win over Missouri State, Sam Pittman spoke to the media.

Sam Pittman: Bobby Petrino had his kids better prepared than I did. Their QB made a lot of plays, we turned the ball over, but when Bryce Stephens returned the punt for a score … we’re so fortunate to win. Our kids kept clawing and fighting.

“Kids just kept fighting and clawing. To come out with an 11 point win, it just shows the culture of our program.” – Sam Pittman

“He got up the sideline and outran them. Big, big, big, big play…We thought we’d have a chance to return one, but we obviously didn’t think it’d go for a touchdown.”

Sam Pittman says he doesn’t think the struggles were a product of Arkansas overlooking Missouri State. “I think there’s a difference between looking forward to next week and not giving enough respect to the team you’re playing…. I just think Missouri State outplayed us.”

Sam Pittman: “Their team wasn’t better than us, because we beat them. But coach was better than me.”

Sam Pittman on the mood on the sideline while things were going wrong: “I learned against Auburn last year not to panic… I tried not to panic because if I do, the team will.”
Says the team didn’t panic during the game. #WPS
