Sam Pittman won a key recruiting battle over Ole Miss when Arkansas landed a commitment from Memphis native Marcus Henderson, a 4-star offensive lineman who was selected to the Under Armour All-American game.

Henderson is listed at 6-foot-5 and 300 pounds. He’s rated the No. 11 player in Tennessee, and the No. 15 offensive guard in this class, according to the 247Sports Composite. He had a reported 23 offers, including several SEC schools, and made visits to Missouri, Ole Miss and Arkansas in the last 3 months.

HawgBeat reported that the Razorbacks recruited Henderson under Chad Morris and initially gave him an offer in May, 2018. He visited Fayetteville several times unofficially but wound up narrowing his focus to other programs. It wasn’t until Brad Davis and Pittman were hired at Arkansas that Henderson started taking a hard look at the program again.

Henderson knew of Pittman’s reputation before Arkansas.

“He was a good coach (at Georgia),” Henderson said. “Obviously, he’s a player’s coach. Everybody wants to play for him so I think he’s going to do some good things in Fayetteville and turn this program around.”
