NFL roster cuts have two former Auburn players on the waiver wire. In transactions announced Friday, DeVonte Lambert was cut by the Carolina Panthers and Will Hastings was released for the second time by the New England Patriots.
Lambert, who was an Auburn starter in 2014 and ’15, is attempting an NFL comeback. His last NFL regular-season action came in 2016 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In 2017, Lambert dislocated his wrist in a Bucs preseason game and missed the regular season. He was released by Tampa Bay at the end of the 2018 preseason. Lambert was out of football in 2019 and played for the St. Louis BattleHawks of the XFL earlier this year.
Hastings signed with New England as an undrafted free agent rookie in May. The Patriots released Hastings on July 26 but then re-signed him on July 28 as the team needed more receivers in camp.
Hastings played in 42 games during his collegiate career at Auburn and finished with 56 receptions for 845 yards and 6 touchdowns. Last season, he played in 13 games and caught 19 passes for 222 yards and one touchdown.
