4-star OLB backs off pledge to Auburn

Auburn’s 2020 recruiting class took a hit on Sunday night.

Trenton Simpson, a 4-star outside linebacker out of Charlotte, North Carolina, announced that he has decommitted from AU. He made the announcement with a note screenshot (below) posted on his Twitter account:

The Mallard Creek product participated in Nike’s “The Opening” competition camp, checking in at over 6-2 and 220 pounds, logging a 4.67-second 40-yard dash and 37.80-inch vertical. He is rated the No. 2 North Carolina recruit, No. 4 outside linebacker and No. 33 prospect overall nationally for 2020 on the 247Sports Composite. Simpson has 24 scholarship offers, including Florida, Georgia, LSU, South Carolina and Tennessee.
