The coronavirus outbreak has shut down Auburn’s spring practice, but the school’s football projects are moving ahead as planned.
AU athletic director Allen Greene held a conference call with media members on Friday. The status of the program’s standalone football facility was one of the topics that came up during the call.
“Right now we are full steam ahead on the football facility,” Greene said per AL.com’s Tom Green. “Obviously, as things change on our campus and in our country and around the world, we will audible as we see fit, but we have been given the directive to move forward full steam ahead.”
The standalone facility, which was approved back in September, is not the only on-campus football-related project. Green notes that the athletic department had also planned construction projects at Plainsman Park and Jane B. Moore Field, as well as Jordan-Hare Stadium (suites, LED lighting system).
“Well, as of right now, there’s no change in the timeline,” AD Greene said. “If we defer to our university position on capital projects, they’re still moving forward. Again, things change so rapidly that it’s hard to tell what tomorrow’s going to bring. But we’ll continue to press forward as long as we’re able to.”
