Bud Walton Arena had a white out and a raucous crowd on Tuesday night, as No. 1-ranked Auburn rolled into Fayetteville and the Arkansas fans were ready.
One notable lineup change was Auburn played without guard Zep Jasper, who was out for the second straight game with a non-COVID related illness. Still, the Tigers are off to their second best start in program history at 22-1 overall and are on a nation-leading 19-game win streak.
Arkansas led Auburn at the under-12 timeout, 12-10, as both teams are shooting 33 percent.
Before the game, coach Bruce Pearl told his team to value its possessions, and added, “it’s about all of us. Let’s make a statement tonight that that system wins.”
This is a meeting of SEC heavyweights as Arkansas is coming off of a 63-55 win over Mississippi State for the Razorbacks’ eighth-straight win Saturday night at Bud Walton Arena. The Razorbacks are 18-5 overall, 7-3 in the SEC.
Arkansas has held 5 SEC teams under 60 points this season after holding four SEC teams under 60 in Eric Musselman’s first 2 seasons combined. The last time Arkansas held at least 5 SEC teams under 60 in a season was 2006-07 (6 times).
Auburn came in with the SEC Player of the Week in sophomore guard Wendell Green Jr., and to try and neutralize him, Arkansas posted up against Green in the early possessions.
