If you missed it, the updated Week 1 schedule for the Southeastern Conference was released on Monday.

Here are the matchups now slated to open the season out of the SEC:

  • Alabama at Missouri
  • Florida at Ole Miss
  • Georgia at Arkansas
  • Kentucky at Auburn
  • Mississippi State at LSU
  • Tennessee at South Carolina
  • Vanderbilt at Texas A&M

During a recent appearance on “The Paul Finebaum Show,” ESPN College GameDay host Rece Davis was asked to share his thoughts on the schedule release.

His first comment was on the uphill climb facing many of the league’s first-year coaches to open the 2020 season but then Davis pointed toward one game that he likes as a good matchup to open the season.

“I think you rightly pointed out that Auburn-Kentucky game,” Davis said on the show. “I mean Kentucky, if you look at FPI, SP+, those types of ratings, (Kentucky is) sort of middle of the pack (in the SEC) and really, not too many notches below Auburn in terms of preseason rankings. So that might well be the most intriguing on the field game of Week 1.”

Tennessee and South Carolina fans may argue their game deserves in that conversation but according to Davis, Kentucky’s trip to Auburn is the “most intriguing” matchup slated to be played during the opening weekend of the season.
