Auburn kicker Daniel Carlson was named as one of 20 semifinalists Thursday for the Lou Groza Award, which is given annually to college football’s best kicker, according to the team’s official website.

Carlson was a finalist for the award last season and has continued to find success in 2016 after making 17 of his 18 field goal attempts. The junior made three during Auburn’s 40-29 win over Ole Miss on Saturday, which earned SEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

“He’s a weapon,” Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said. “You got confidence to let him kick it 50-plus.”

Malzahn has also consistently referred to Carlson as the “best kicker in the country.”

The junior has the fourth-highest field goal percentage in the FBS (94.4) and hasn’t missed an attempt since Oct. 1 against Louisiana-Monroe.
