Auburn will most likely play in the Birmingham Bowl, according to al.com.

At 6-6, the Tigers have the worst record among the 10 bowl-eligible teams in the SEC, and as a result, will probably be assigned to the Birmingham Bowl in their home state.

The bowl game will be played on Dec. 30 at Legion Field. The game will kick off at noon ET, and will be shown on ESPN.

Auburn’s opponent will likely be either Memphis or Cincinnati.

The SEC has 10 bowl-eligible teams. If heavily-favored Alabama beats Florida in the SEC Championship Game on Saturday, the Crimson Tide are almost guaranteed to be in the College Football Playoff. That would mean Ole Miss would go to the Sugar Bowl and Florida would likely head to the Citrus Bowl. After that, comes the SEC’s “pool of six” bowls – the Outback, Music City, TaxSlayer, Liberty, Texas and Belk Bowls, which will be filled by LSU, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Georgia and Texas A&M (in no particular order).

That would leave Auburn going to either the Birmingham Bowl or the Independence Bowl. The Birmingham Bowl has the first choice, and is almost certain to take the Tigers. The Independence Bowl would have gotten an 11th bowl-eligible SEC team, but since only 10 SEC teams are bowl-eligible, a team from another conference will get its spot.
