It took the Auburn Tigers longer to settle their starting punter position than their starting quarterback position this summer.

A day after deciding on Baylor-transfer QB Jarrett Stidham as the starter, the Tigers named a starting punter on Tuesday.

That honor will go to redshirt sophomore Ian Shannon, who punted twice against Texas A&M last season:

Shannon can also be used as a kickoff specialist. He recorded four touchbacks on six kickoffs against Arkansas State and Louisiana-Monroe in 2016 and also handled the kickoff duties during the Iron Bowl game against Alabama.

Shannon beat out starting K Daniel Carlson, Tyler Stovall and Aidan Marshall for the starting job.
