In his first spring as Auburn’s offensive coordinator, Chip Lindsey was missing one of his top wideouts, Kyle Davis.

Davis, a former 4-star recruit, missed spring due to “personal business,” but officially rejoined the Tigers when the team held a meeting prior to the start of the summer semester, according to AL.com’s Tom Green. The return of Davis is a big deal to Lindsey.

“I’m excited to get him back,” Lindsey said prior to a speaking engagement in the Atlanta area. “We’re glad he’s back and part of our team. We’re excited about his role in our offense.”

With QB Jarrett Stidham leading the offense, the 2017 season is expected to be a breakout year for Auburn’s receiving corps. As a freshman, Davis had 12 catches for 248 yards and two touchdowns. Among returning receivers, only Darius Slayton had more receiving yards (292). Davis’ average of 20.7 yards per catch was the highest among Auburn wideouts with double-digit receptions.

While missing spring likely slows Davis’ development, Lindsey is confident that the sophomore will be able to catch up this summer.

“I think he can make up a lot,” Lindsey said. “Technology these days, he’ll be watching everything we did (in spring). He’s a talented guy, so I think he’ll work really hard and I don’t think he’ll have any trouble catching on.”
