The Auburn Tigers have yet to name a starting quarterback, as a battle between true freshman Bo Nix and redshirt freshman Joey Gatewood continues.

It doesn’t sound like the Tigers are any closer to naming a starter, either, based on comments by OC Kenny Dillingham on Thursday.

Per AL.com, Dillingham said the team is taking its time and collecting info on what both players can do in order to make the right decision:

“I wouldn’t say much closer,” Dillingham said. “I would say more information in terms of what we know, kind of have more data of what each player can do, and both of them can help us win game. So, I wouldn’t say we’re closer. I would just say obviously the more time you practice, the more information you have.”

Dillingham said the decision is hard because both players are doing well this fall:

“They’ve both gotten better,” Dillingham said. “You can see the growth from spring. What people don’t realize is we can’t watch them throw the football, we can’t do football with them from spring until camp, so watching them learn the offense, get better and come out and execute things from spring until now, they’ve all drastically gotten better. So, I’ve been pleased with both of them. I think they are both really good players. We’ve been dealing with both. We’ll just kind of see how camp ends.”

Who will start Week 1? We may not find out until the Tigers take the field against Oregon on Aug. 31.
