Auburn's Peyton Barber says Alabama not 'the better team'
The Iron Bowl went to Alabama Saturday and everything is still is in play for the Crimson Tide, the SEC Championship Game next Saturday and a likely spot in the playoffs after that.
Alabama is 11-1 now and winners of nine in a row after its 29-13 victory over Auburn.
But not everyone is singing their praises. Namely Auburn running back Peyton Barber.
“Don’t get me wrong, they’re (Alabama) a great defense, a great team,” Barber said. “But I don’t feel like they were the better team”
Auburn was able to move the ball effectively in the first half and hung with the Tide in a game full of field goals. Auburn rushed for 90 yards in the first half. But the Tigers gained only one yard on the ground in eight carries, opting to throw the ball more often.
Barber had just 29 yards on eight carries, falling short of his goal to reach 1,000 yards on the season. He’s at 947 now and will have to wait for the bowl game to get over the mark.
Got to love that Auburn logic. One bama player out gained your entire offense and you want to run your mouth……
LOL…Barber shouldn’t whine, he’ll be watching playoff bound Bama from his Lazyboy.
Truer words have never been spoken!
Henry 271
Auburn 260
Adam Griffith 15
Auburn 13
Come on Peyton we weren’t the better team
Henry had 11 more yards than auburn had total. Haha. Keep dreaming, Peyton. 29-13 and a Rammer Jammer in your home stadium says otherswise, Mr. 8-Rushes-For-29-Yards.
Well first off he said better team, not better running back sooooo hush with the final stats. Without Henry, yall wouldnt have even made it this far. Save a few called and uncalled penalties, the stadium likely would have been singing a different tune at the end. Enjoy your win, but dont get cocky. A 6-6 Auburn team held their own with you for 3 3/4ths quarters, “Mr. Ride-The-One-Dimensional-Offense”.
What’s your point? Henry is part of the bama team. The defense that held you to less than 300 yards us also part of the team……Continue to blame the refs like your other Auburn buddies. Let those tears flow.
Have you lost your mind? Called and uncalled penalties? What game were you watching?
Hypothetical statements hold no water in the real, no one knows where Alabama would be without Henry because we haven’t seen it. If auburn led for more than 1 quarter, I’d be inclined to hear him out. But they didn’t. They got beat in all phases of the game and when everyone knew Henry was running the ball, they couldn’t stop him. And, as we all know, the records mean nothing in this game. The 2009 Iron Bowl, for example. Say what you will, but Alabama outright won this game.
YOU MUST BE SMOKING THE SAME POT PEYTON IS.
Geeezus, Josh, you an Aubarn fan or an ohio st. fan? That shoulda-woulda-coulda reasoning might carrying you for another 364 days I guess. Enjoy watching Bama in the playoffs.
First off, grab some of that Toomer’s TP and wipe your tears. Second, Auburn got more calls their way than a phone sex operator. Third, I like how you say “hush with the final stats” like it’s irrelevant that someone is using numbers to refute a players claims that their team is better. Finally, you must be new to college football if you don’t know that the Iron Bowl is the thickest rivalry in the nation, which means both teams are 0-0 coming into this game, these are kids who play very emotionally and Auburn played like they had nothing to lose. They threw every trick play and effort they had into it (and were still a bobbled fluke pass away from not finding the endzone at all) and Alabama played like boys holding fine china to keep their CFP hopes alive and stay healthy. Henry is a huge part of our team and most likely our 2nd Heisman, so he is a big part of our success, but you’re a true Auburn fan if you think that our OL and defense isn’t full of pro talent and more of a reason for the same success.
I don’t understand this logic. “Take Henry away and you wouldn’t have gotten this far.” Well take Robinson away and would Auburn have even scored? You can’t just create hypothetical situations like that.
Let’s talk about penalties, pass interferences called on a receiver that the ball wasn’t even thrown to, that one puzzled all the broadcasters, and lets talk about the fumble, that didn’t get turned over, that one even stumped the broadcasters that thought it was a fumble, oh lets not forget the dirty play throwing Voker into the benches trying to hurt him, Tissue ya Jack Wagon! We need to clean up all this tissue and make you some brounty the quicker picker upper to wipe up all the tears!!
Said the guy who’s fanbase worships at the altar of Cam Newton.
your response is comical at best. DxJoshxD…. Next thing i expect to hear is how you had a kicker in High school that could kick through the uprights on kickoff..lol. but…honestly there were called and uncalled penalties on both sides of the ball….your guys just got called more for the atrocious amount of BS they were doing…so you hush with the bad calls excuse. with Muschamp’s mouth its a wonder why you didn’t have more penalties….wonderful display of character and class. not to mention you own students selling out…there were more Bama folks in the student section than I have ever seen. So…there is a difference in confidence and Cockiness…just ask JSU. stay COCKY!
Coker was solid today too, that was a pretty sweet TD pass when he juked that #55 what’s his name again?
Oh you mean the #55 who was held Ll game, pointed out by several sports writers? That can help Coker have more time in the pocket
Let those tears flow. Besides he wasn’t even blocked on that play so not sure how he got held…….Cry, cry, cry..
You sound like someone who’s never been on a field. I could point out at least 5 instances of Auburn OL holding. You’re going to tell me that a 6-6 OL that got worked by Jacksonville State got past the nation’s top defensive front without holding? Holding calls are subjective and just because Verne & Gary point it out doesn’t mean it’s remotely relevant.
Gary and Verne cant even keep up with who has possession most of the time..lol they are a joke…love this comment!
Well it helps when the refs dont call holding for a full game, no wonder Henry has had so many yards this year.
Tissue? Never seen such a crying fanbase.
There was probably holding by Alabama.
Just like there was probably holding by Auburn.
Barner tears are so sweet and tasty, please cry some more for me. Yum, yum, yum….
they dont call unsportsman like conduct of AU players kicking the pile from a standing position either….bad calls on both sides most every game…c’mon dude … find another reason…how bout your team just wasnt good enough this year.
COME ON BARBER YOU HAD 29 YARDS AGAINST HENRYS 274 AN YOU THINK YOUR ON THE BETTER TEAM WAKE UP KIDDO .
DX JOSH JUST WHAT PENALTES ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT.
THATS OK BAMA TIME THEY HAVE TA CRY ABOUT SOMETHING
They are just upset that the wheels fell off the Gus bus.LOL
Maybe Auburn needs another second.
Wow this is funny, also Drake has a broken arm, is Bama supposed to roll out true freshman running backs in the iron bowl to spell Henry? I think not.
I mean he had a good game and Auburn was right there the first 2 and a half quarters, but I don’t understand how he can claim that Bama wasn’t the better team. In terms of either performance or pure talent, I would say this year Bama is without a doubt on top of Auburn.
This guy should have played at Tennessee. I haven’t heard that kind of logic since I listened to a Tennessee fan. Look until you score more points you don’t have the better team ..OKAY!! That’s why score is kept. The one with the least amount of points is not the better team.
I guess Tennessee is better than georgia
Auburn played much better than I thought they would and kept it close for 3 1/2 quarters, but Alabama was the better team. You can’t score 1 touchdown and a couple of field goals and expect to beat a good team. We’ll get them next year. Congratulations to Alabama and good luck in the playoffs.
I’m going to say this after watching the game: the SEC sucks this year. The West is not the best and the East is absolutely is horrible. I forsee the SEC getting blanked in the bowl wins. Bama is better than Auburn, but not by much. Yes, it was rivalry game and you throw the stats out the window. But Bama should of knocked the bejesus out of the War Eagles. They played like the Richt Boys with no heart. They are lucky to win. Looks like Iowa will win a National Championship.
Don’t bet the farm there Skippy.
Auburn is done, everyone can stop that gimmick of a offense now.the Gus bus is broken down.
I would consider it more of a flat tire. Offense is very hard without a QB (as UT right before Dobbs can attest) and no one (Gus included) would have known that JJ would be the world’s biggest bust, and then our quick-fix Sean White got hurt. We return a ton of players and have a decent recruiting class. Gus bus will get rolling again soon enough.
Auburn moved the ball pretty well early, scoring 6 on field goals in the first quarter, but they didn’t score again the rest of the game with the exception of the looney tunes touchdown catch, a play type they seem to rely upon a bit too much.
What a joke of crybabies they have in aubren. Bama is best in the west. Soon to be SEC champs, a Heisman winner, playoff bound and possibly National Champs. Meanwhile its all over but the crying in aubren.
Well winning the game makes Bama the better team. Did we play the way we should have? Absolutely not…this game is emotional, different from other games. If Auburn really wanted to find out who was the better team….don’t soak the field. Let’s play fair. Why do you want to do underhanded things if you truly want to see who is the best? Each player is a part of the team therefore stats do count. We are lucky to have Henry on our team. He plays to win. TEAM…meaning all playing TOGETHER! It is not Bama’s fault Auburn has had a bad year! I could continue with other things that happened during the game but why?
I agree with a lot of your comment, I think Henry is a team player and a good person. It is a team sport, so it is about how the team as a whole plays together. I agree that it isn’t Bama’s fault that Auburn is having a down year. But the field soaking thing seems unnecessary to your argument.
We had to play on the same field and slipped at least as many times as y’all did. I find it hard to believe that Auburn would get any advantage by “soaking” their field. It is a natural grass field, you have to water it and the weather/temperature this year has been weird for late November so I highly doubt that it was intentional.
In his defense he wouldn’t be much of a team player, or competitor if he didn’t feel that way about his. Broken ass logic, but not like he could go around telling everybody how bad they suck and expect to get any playtime next game. RTR
Bama – 29 points
Barber – 29 yards
This is cute.
Anybody who says Henry isn’t a team player has obviously never seen him pass block.
Auburn will certainly be the better team in the Birmingham Bowl.
The best case logic behind this would be that Peyton is saying that he doesn’t feel that Alabama dominated the game. That if Alabama had been a “better” team then Auburn shouldn’t have had the opportunity to win that they did. If you replace the word better in Peyton’s comment with Dominant, then it is much more reasonable. Yes, Alabama certainly played a better game that Auburn, has had more success than Auburn, and probably has more NFL talent on their roster at the moment, but Auburn had the opportunities to win the game going into the 4th quarter. Had a Auburn capitalized on a couple of plays, who knows what could have happened. But it is irrelevant because Alabama played a good game and won.
tldr: Auburn had a chance to win in the 4th, replace the word better with dominant and his comment makes more sense.
