Auburn softball is up against it in the Clemson Regional after a shutout loss to No. 10 seed Clemson.

The Tigers started the weekend with a big win over UNC Wilmington Friday. Unfortunately, Auburn was unable to capitalize in key moments while getting shut out by Clemson to start the day Saturday.

On the mound, Maddie Penta was phenomenal for Auburn. Penta surrendered a lone run with back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the 4th. Outside of that inning, Penta allowed just one hit while going 6 strong innings.

At the plate, Auburn was able to get just 4 hits and did not draw a walk. The big moment for the Tigers came in the top of the 6th when a pair of singles and an error loaded the bases with one out. Clemson was able to get out of the jam with a flyout and a fielder’s choice to end the inning.

Auburn also put the lead-off batter on to start the 7th inning via an error but a pair of groundouts and a strikeout ended the game with Clemson taking it 1-0. The Tigers are now in a must-win scenario and will face the winner of UNCW vs. Louisiana at 6 pm ET Saturday evening.

If Auburn is able to advance, the Tigers would need to beat Clemson twice on Sunday afternoon to win the regional.
