Auburn softball won its first game of the NCAA tournament, 10-5 over Colorado State in the Tucson Regional, but the Tigers and their fans weren’t in much of a celebratory mood after seeing pitcher Ashlee Swindle carted off.
Swindle exited after taking a line drive to the face in the top of the 5th inning. After the game, AU coach Mickey Dean said it was difficult to talk about Swindle’s injury.
“It’s hard to talk about,” Dean told reporters. “I don’t even know if I can, because that’s a kid who works so hard and we’re not here without her.”
A team spokesperson informed reporters that Swindle was taken to a medical facility for x-rays and further evaluation. Dean also told reporters that Swindle was able to talk and in good spirits. Swindle led all Auburn pitchers this season with 129 innings pitched.
No further updates have been reported on Swindle as of this morning. Auburn is set to face regional host Arizona at 6 p.m. ET Saturday.
