Auburn suffered a decommitment from a talented defensive lineman who committed to the Tigers in September.

Jamarrion Harkless is a 3-star defensive lineman out of Lexington, Kentucky (Frederick Douglass) and coming off a state championship his team won on Saturday night. He wrote on social media that it was an unfortunate decision, but that everything happens for a reason.

Harkless is listed at 6-foot-4 and 290 pounds. The 247Sports Composite rated Harkless the No. 90 defensive lineman in the Class of 2023 and the No. 8 player in the state of Kentucky.

He was recruited by Jimmy Brumbaugh, who was not retained by Hugh Freeze for his new Auburn staff. Auburn is down to 11 recruits in the Class of 2023, which is ranked No. 52 in the country.

Some of Harkless’ offers included Illinois, Ole Miss, Georgia, Kentucky and Cincinnati among 21 offers.
