Auburn enjoyed a big weekend thanks to a national championship title from Hayden Marbut and Tucker Smith as they won the Bassmaster College National Championship on Saturday.

In the course of 3 days, the duo caught a total of 53 pounds and 12 ounces to claim the title. The duo never trailed at any point in the 3-day event.

Marbut and Smith previously won a national championship while in high school together at the 2020 Bassmaster High School National Championship at Kentucky Lake.

“It really feels amazing” Smith said, “we were blessed to win a high school national championship together and now we got a college one under our belt too. We’ve been fishing really well recently. I give thanks to Hayden, he’s been a really great fishing partner, I’ve had a great time fishing with him at Auburn, but it’s been a really, really good year.”

“We always have a good time,” Marbut said, “the way it all came togther is crazy. It’s just something we joked about like ‘let’s try to win both of them’ and for it to happen the way it did. Just to come together at the very end of the day, it’s super special and it’s hard to describe.”
