Auburn’s defense got some big news on Friday, while the offense will have some added depth at quarterback in 2021.
DT Tyrone Truesdell and backup QB Grant Loy are both with the program currently and will play another year this coming season, a team spokesperson confirmed to Auburn Undercover on Friday. Both were seniors in 2020. Both are using the extra year of eligibility the NCAA granted players because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Truesdell will likely be a key anchor on new defensive coordinator Derek Masons defense. In his past two seasons as a starter, Truesdell collected 7.5 tackles for loss and three sacks. Truesdell was a top-50 player out of Georgia in Auburn’s 2017 class. Along with Mason, Auburn also has a new defensive line coach in Nick Eason, who was previously an NFL defensive line coach with the Bengals and Titans. He replaced Rodney Garner.
Loy is a former Bowling Green graduate transfer who will get set to play his fifth season of college football. The Tigers quarterbacks under new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Mike Bobo are Bo Nix, redshirt freshman Chayil Garnett, and newcomer Dematrius Davis, the No. 8 dual threat QB in the 2021 class and 4-star prospect out of Houston, Texas.
