Auburn QB Bo Nix got off to a rough start in the Citrus Bowl against Northwestern as the Tigers went three and out on their first two drives and Auburn had just two first downs by early in the second quarter.

Nix himself started 5-for-11 passing for 55 yards, and several fans grew increasingly frustrated to the point where they hoped new coach Bryan Harsin moved on from Nix next season. However, Nix recovered a bit and went on a passing stretch of being is three-for-three for 23 yards. However the drive bogged down and the Tigers settled for a field goal.

Late in the first half, Nix drew a targeting call on a play where he scrambled for extra yards. But the 15-play drive ended with a field goal after Nix had three incomplete passes from the Northwestern 5-yard line, and the Wildcats took a 14-6 lead at halftime.

Nix was 14-for-25 passing in the first half for 118 yards. He also had six carries for 30 yards.
