Brian Battie was in attendance at the Iron Bowl on Saturday.

Earlier this week, Battie returned to practice to surprise his Auburn teammates. Then, on Saturday, he appeared on the sidelines in Tuscaloosa for Auburn’s matchup with Alabama.

Battie was the victim of a shooting in May that left him with a gunshot wound to the head and in critical condition. The shooting also claimed the life of Brian’s older brother, Tommie Battie IV. Court documents filed against the alleged shooter stated that Battie might never walk again.

He was released from the hospital in late August and began rehab in Sarasota, Florida, with his family. An update on his GoFundMe page last Sunday said that Battie underwent cranioplasty surgery and “is now on the road to recovery.”

Battie played running back at USF for 3 years before transferring to Auburn prior to the 2023 season. He returned 28 kickoffs for the tigers and rushed for 227 yards in his first year.

His presence back around the team this week no doubt added a little extra motivation to an already inspired Auburn team.

The Tigers are fighting for bowl eligibility in the Iron Bowl. They’ve won 3 of their last 4 to get to 5-6 on the season.
