Auburn needed a last-minute drive to shake off Georgia State at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday.

And a Newton played a key role in the victory, too. No, not program great Cam Newton, but his younger brother, Caylin, who came up with a blocked punt that was returned for a touchdown by Barton Lester to pull the Tigers within 24-19. They’d go on to win, of course, thanks to T.J. Finley’s touchdown pass to Shedrick Jackson with less than a minute to go in regulation.

Caylin Newton was a former star quarterback at FCS Howard before transferring to Auburn in 2020 to complete his eligibility and switching to wide receiver. While he has yet to record any stats, his blocked punt was a watershed moment.
