Cadillac Williams is thrilled to be named interim HC at his alma mater, Auburn.

Williams has been on the Auburn coaching staff since 2019 as the running backs coach. After the firing of HC Bryan Harsin, Williams was chosen to be the interim HC for the remainder of the 2022 season.

Wilton Jackson of Sports Illustrated points out that Williams is the 1st Black HC in Auburn history. This history is not lost on Williams, who is thrilled about the opportunity and honor.

“I get goosebumps,” Williams said in his first news conference as head coach on Wednesday. “Never thought in a million years I’d be in this position.”

Williams will have a tough task ahead of him. The Tigers are currently sitting at 3-5, with games against Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Western Kentucky and Alabama to end the season.

Williams could not guarantee wins, but he did stress the importance of playing hard “Auburn football.”

Honestly, that’s what I what I want to get these kids to do, man. Play hard and complete,” Williams said. “Win, lose or draw, if we do that, not only will we make ourselves proud but I know the Auburn family will be proud of us, too.”
