Video: Cam Newton walks out of Super Bowl press conference
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton didn’t have much to say after his team lost to the Denver Broncos 24-10 in Super Bowl 50.
Newton, the NFL’s MVP for 2015, walked out of his post-game press conference early after giving one-word answers. Newton finished 18 for 41 passing and was kept out of the end zone.
It was an all-around frustrating night, and he certainly didn’t handle it well after the game.

I like what cam does for his fans and I can understand the emotional impact this game could have however this move is purely unprofessional a bad move by him.
it’s the real Cam Newton though…
No its not. Name one other time he’s ever done this.
He shouldnt have done it but he just lost the SuperBowl. Give him a minute to get over it. Its probably pretty tough to work your whole life for one moment only to fail when you finally get there.
It’s not just the press conference, it’s everything… it’s the times he held up the team bus while he sat pouting in the locker.. Plenty of times he showed his true self… ESPN had, I think it was a 30/30, feature on him just a week or so ago and showed several clips of him acting like an immature spoiled brat. I’d consider it a safe bet that the apple didn’t fall far from the tree…. as is usually the case…
This reminds me of Steve Spurrier’s press conference the last time he played Butch Jones.
At least Cam answered questions before he walked out.
I understand, as he might be a little upset.
At least he didn’t break down and cry in front of the camera after the game, cough cough
MVP caliber, ladies and gentlemen.
I understand he was upset. I get that. But that doesn’t excuse you from doing your job during the game and after the game, good or bad outcome.
He will have more opportunities but to ignore the trends of #1 O vs #1 D as well as the youth of the Carolina team as a whole is pretty shortsighted.
Are you saying he wasnt MVP caliber?
Stats and talent wise? Absolutely. He had a monster season.
Maturity wise? I will stop short of saying immature but his reaction was not MVP caliber, regardless of who was chanting on the other side of the curtain. He can’t control where the interviews are conducted. One word answers with his head covered up in doors…he CAN control that. And he’ll need to the next time he faces a huge game like this, because as we all know, anyone can win on any day. Cam will get his, he just needs to better prepare for a situation where he doesn’t get his.
See none of us get it. To be at the top of world on the biggest stage. To be a one loss team in the nfl and then play the worst game of the season in the one that really matters. Then you are forced to talk to mics and cameras just so they’ll make a bs story bashing you about what you’ve said. You feel as though you’ve let everyone down. It’s always been cam against the world. No matter how much good he does. Y’all will follow him till he fails. He and his team just had a great season and he won MVP. He has a bad game and y’all wanna hate cuz he doesn’t wanna feed into the media’s bullsh*t. Come on now y’all are no better than the media.
I say cam develop a Floyd mayweather mentality either you are with him or against him. Hate him or love him he’s still getting that money.
You must have missed the first part of my comment I like cam I admire the work he does for his fans I hope nothing but the best for him however I do not like this move by him. He should have handled this a lot better.
why you making excuses for him? Russell Wilson didn’t act like this last year. Peyton Manning didn’t act this way two years ago or back in 09 when he lost that one. You must not have seen Luke Kuechley’s post game interview. He showed an example of what true class looks like, as did the others I mentioned. Cam is a gifted athlete, yes, great the way he gives kids balls after TD’s, yes. But in spite of his belief, turns out he’s not Superman after all… All season long the tv pundits on FOX, NBC, ESPN have been praising Cam for “growing up” this season. “No longer the pouting, sulking Cam” He’s taken the bull by the horns and become a leader…. It’s as if the Denver defense said “will the real Cam Newton please stand up”… He’s baaaack…
It’s because he’s an Auburn fan, the loudest and weepiest little brothers in college football (though UAB is giving them a run for their money). Auburn fans ignored all the warning signs about him while on the Plains and have continued to live vicariously though their one-semester-and-done alumnus in the NFL. They approached the Super Bowl as if it were the Tigers and not the Panthers who were playing. And now that they can’t strut around acting as if their team has accomplished something even bigger than Alabama’s national title last month simply because their national-title-winning QB was the starter (nevermind there are ‘Bama alums playing for Carolina and a former UA QB and HC is their OC) they’re loudly weeping again. Now that I mention it, once they do realize Mike Shula is the OC, they’ll start trashing him and accusing him of sabotaging Newton’s coronation as an excuse. Oh, Barners, we know you so well….
I’m not even a panthers fan.
You know for as little as you gumps like Auburn you can feel free to stop referring to us as your little brother. We don’t want to be a part of your family and never refer to you as our big brother. Yes Auburn fans look at Cam differently, he is an Alum the same thing can be said about basically any school’s former players. Oh and Shula is actually a cousin of mine, thank god he was one of the worst coaches Bama has ever had it makes it suck that much less when I have to admit i’m related to one.
You can’t pick family barners. Alabama is in the same state as Auburn, the same conference as Auburn, the same division as Auburn. That’s why the chant of “SEC” is heard in every SEC stadium. And in that “family”, Alabama is King. You sounded hurt in that comment!
Just shut up. You don’t know me and you don’t know Auburn or Auburn fans. Your generalizations indicate how little you know about us, or possibly anything.
Well, I’m glad I don’t know you, you’re actin’ like a toddler sent to timeout!
As for Auburn and their fans, considering the fact that I’m from Alabama, go to school with and have friends that are Auburn fans, and have family members such as my aunt that are Auburn fans, I believe that at least on some basic level, I do, in fact, know about Auburn and it’s fans.
You are for real acting like a little brother with that comment! Chill…
Well, trunksucker, if you could read and comprehend, you would have known I was replying to dcroz. Of course, you can’t do either so I should not be surprised. I am certainly not your little brother. You are the one that needs to move up to the third grade.
Well, considering the fact that I commented before you, it looked like a reply to me. It’s whatever, just enjoy the fact that Auburn will never match the success of Alabama. Hell, our last 7 years have been more successful than your entire program’s history!
Might wanna take a look back Peyton did act like this in 09 when he lost to the saints
I don’t believe he did… The only action similar was, he did walk off the field and not congratulate Brees. That was him letting the silver spoon part of his personality show, but he did not sit with reporters with his bottom lip pooched out, with his head covered, looking like a kid that his mama won’t let watch sesame street…. Don’t feel too bad, everbody on TV today making excuses for him too.
All cam did was walk out of an interview
“All cam did was walk out of an interview”
wow, man how old are you… I think I’m beginning to understand why you can empathize so closely with Cam now…
Oh, we get it! A man playing a professional sport that is payed millions of dollars, has been trash talking all week, thinking he’s invincible, then gets his ego handed to him on a platter! Now, he has learned one of life’s most valuable lessons, hopefully! How to have a little humility and to understand what the word professional means! If he can’t take the frustration and criticism, then he needs stay off the field! This is not peewee or high school football anymore. He has talent as a player, but now he needs to adjust the attitude to be able to cope with defeat and or victory. Only then, will he be considered a professional!
Finally someone who is not a moron. I personally appreciate your post, simply for the fact you are not bashing his decision of leaving. Honestly, I would love to see anyone who talks trash about Cam Newton, put themselves in his position and not walk out or cry. That’s such a huge game that obviously every other QuarterBack could not get their team too, and he gets thrashed by every single person for suffering a loss. It’s kind of like, “so, you haven’t ever cried over a heart break? Well this is a level far above your heart break.” People disgust me.
All these people talking trash about him not being a professional. He cries and still pulls in more than any of us will make in a lifetime in pretty much one year. If not extremely close. “You a light weight, get up on my level.” Cam will come back.
All year the media has been defending this guy’s on the field antics, claiming that he’s not showboating but having fun. Clearly Cam has zero class, he’s acting like a spoiled brat in front of the media instead of a paid professional. This is karmic payback for the ridiculous celebrations and general lack of any professional courtesy or respect that he’s been showing to all the other teams this year. I find this immensely enjoyable.
The perfect post.
You have it mostly backwards. Many in the media and every fan of every other teams has bashed Cam this, and other years. FYI – Cam is having fun playing football – most of the time. Yesterday was the worst the Panthers have played all year and all of them were very disappointed. He is their leader and felt awful about it. I don’t excuse him for a minute regarding walking out, but from the little I could hear of the questioning from this sound bite, someone was treating it like an inquisition instead of a presser. I did not see the whole presser so I can’t comment about more of it.
Class? Check out “https://www.cam1newton.com” regarding his foundation and come back with a grown-up comment.
Seriously Doc Larry, what’s his foundation (off the field) got to do with his classless behavior last night. Are you saying that he gets a pass because he does good things off the field? You’re right, Cam loves playing the game but he still has a lot of growing up to do and needs to learn how to lose with a little humility.
Cue all the Auburn apologetics that have deluded themselves into believing that this guy is some kind of role model. He got kicked out of school for stealing, probably got paid by boosters to go to college, and has zero class. This guy is a douche, and it’s on full display right here. Win with class, lose with class. Or dance like an idiot when you win, pout like a toddler when you lose.
I have a feeling you don’t like cam. Is it cuz he’s black? Y’all just don’t wanna see a black QB succeed. Much like y’all didn’t want Richard Sherman succeed. Get over yourself you mindless sheep
It has absolutely nothing to do with color. He is classless. He is hated because of who he is not the color of his skin.
Who he is come on now. Odell danced constantly and y’all loved him enough to have him put on the cover of madden. How about Jimmy Graham y’all were upset when he couldn’t dunk on the goalpost anymore. Antonio brown dances. Yet you call cam classless. How about each kid that receives a football after every dance. How about Cam giving up a pair of signed cleats for a disabled kid. You have no reason to hate cam besides the fact that he’s black and successful in a league that thought jake locker and Blaine gabbert were the better of the 3.
I completely agree. Who he is. Odell, Graham, even Sherman have more class than Cam. They were not caught stealing I’m college, they don’t disrespect other fan bases by destroying private property of fans (banners), they (even Sherman) don’t taunt fans like a child. The man has all the talent in the world, there is no denying that. He has an air of entitlement that more talented athletes, may feel, but at least don’t put on display as much. Should you be proud if you are great? Absolutely. Should you act as though you are above everyone else? Not unless you want to be hated?
AUFan_205, “Who he is come on now. Odell danced . . . . Jimmy Graham . . . . Antonio. . . . . ” You have no reason to hate cam besides the fact that he’s black and successful in a league…”
Are you kidding me? GTFOH, in case you haven’t noticed, Odell, Jimmy and Antonio,, THEY BLACK and successful in th league TOO!
What!?!?!
I honestly had forgotten he was black until your post. Aren’t all NFL players black these days? Is that still a “thing” for some people?
You wonder why racism is still alive in this country? It’s because of people like you who won’t let it die.
As a black man, I can say with 100% certainty that I do not dislike Cam because he too, is black. I think you lacked a real counter but just HAD to defend your guy so you, like so many white people like to say black folks do, “pulled the race card”.
Bingo!
You’re right, I don’t like Richard Sherman, but I am a huge Patrick Peterson fan. Not sure how you reconcile that.
That might be the dumbest post on here. Who cares what his skin color is. As mentioned already it’s the fact that he acted like a 3 year old spoiled brat.
Instead of owning up to the fact he got his butt kicked by the number one D in the league he walked way pouting like someone stole his favorite toy.
It never fails, someone somewhere will turn people’s actions into a race thing. Grow up.
Idiot. Maybe he just wore the wrong shoes and couldnt dance in his gold MVP shoes?
Black or white makes no difference. Prime time didn’t like it but that’s not racism at all. And if I’m black or white doesn’t matter sounds like to me the man didn’t want anybody messing with him at that time. He’s human just like everybody else and I wonder how many people got the guts to say what they have been saying to his face. Just for the record I was pulling for Manning all the way. Now y’all don’t know what I am. I’m just a man that doesn’t say anything about another human that I want say to his face.
He should have told them to ask the coke bottle.
Your reasoning actually could be used to say you support him because he’s black. And that makes you a racist. Good or bad “liking” someone because they are black is the same as disliking them because they are black.
Do you even know what the word “apologetics” means? No, I’m sure you did not. It is not a person but a reasoned argument – something you are unfamiliar with.
Mike Shula strikes again.
At least he didn’t steal any computers on the way out. Progress people, progress.
Ah, memories.
I would have walked out too if some stupid reporter asked “are you disappointed?”
I can see that. You are a douche’ crybaby as well.
+1….LOL!
+2 Lol
Cam Newton still owes me a laptop. Cry baby Cam.
If cam were to respond to you it would go something like this
Cam: Is that how you really feel?
You: I respect you and all cam but you shouldn’t have walked out on that press conference. I still like you keep up the hard work fella
My reaction would be “Just keep choking ass clown.” To his face. Pft. Dude is a baby. A talented baby but not a man I would fear.
And my feelings for Cam are due to character. One of my favorite players to watch all times was Randall Cunningham and he was a black quarterback, and its not because he is a barner, I have great respect for the hated Bo Jackson and even Cadillac. I live in Carolina and the guy is an embarrassment. He’s definitely not an ambassador for the league, tearing down rival banners. Hey, the fans In the seats ultimately pay these guys salaries. But egomaniacal entitled fools who don’t understand economics don’t care. Respect your profession, then you will get respect.
Maybe if they replaced the football with a laptop, Cam wouldn’t have fumbled twice.
Nah he would’ve thrown it out the window for a TD
BUT, if he had, he damn sure wouldn’t jump in the pile to get it….
Newton is a low character kind of guy. People only think he left UF because of the stolen laptop. Not so. He also had 3 honor violations pending before the student board for cheating in classes.
The NFL tries to whitewash all of this a paint him as something he is not. While he is winning, it is easy to put on that facade. But when he loses on this stage (a game no one thought they’d lose), then character is truly tested and that is when the real man comes forth.
With all that said and somewhat in his defense…what kind of press conference was that? Where was the moderator? He was being asked 10 questions at once.
Most intelligent post, yet.
true on all counts, but as far as the press conference goes, I’ve seen many like that, nothing new. Sure, the presser could have been conducted more like a press conference and less like a locker room Q&A, but do you really think if it had, Cam would have acted any less the whiney spoiled brat? Brings to mind the saying about leopards…
And you are a low character kind of guy. There – my assertion is just as valid as yours.
Just because you have a cute little gator in front of your post does not give you insight into his character.
That said – I retract my statement about you because I don’t have insight into your character either. I do see what Cam does through his foundation, though, so I give him good marks, and improving, in life.
It kind of reminds you of that time Manning refused to shake hands when he dropped that SuperBowl to the Saints.
205 must want to have cams baby. I have never seen someone defend a grown man that acted like a$$ as much as 205….
He is what he has always been, a low life no class scumbag.
While that presser was some BS, I would like to give my thanks to John Bond for doing us a solid on that one. Besides, Cecil Newton was an idiot trying squeeze money out of State. We’d just bought out one contract and for over half a century we haven’t been able to sneeze without getting investigated. Yeah, I don’t want to think about the fallout of that one, even if he had not taken any money in the end and just decide to go with a former coach, we would have suffered for that one. But AU, nope. And Rogers sucks!
He got no money from Auburn – naysayers from other universities made sure the NCAA investigated Auburn out the wazoo after that incident with the MSU boosters. See – unlike many, I don’t attribute the actions of MSU boosters to the MSU athletic program and they would do well to do the same for any school.
he shouldve just dabbed for every time he got asked a question.
Y’all need to chill with this Can Newton hate. First of all, I don’t like Can Newton; I think he was bought by Auburn, and he has a horrible attitude. But the worst thing he’s done since joining the NFL is act cocky. Sure he takes peoples signs and he’s kind of a douche, but he isn’t Johnny Manziel or Jameis Winston. Y’all act like he Hitler.
Chill guys. Anyways, Auburn still Sucks Elephant Trunks and Go Broncos!
I agree with most of what you’re saying but it ain’t being cocky it’s being confident, we didn’t pay him, I don’t recall him being a douche, and Jameis has changed for the better. Other than that I agree.
Nope – typical bammer BS – you need to read actual news instead of red “journalism”. The NCAA investigated AU out the wazoo about this, and even though they were pushed hard by the likes of “your” fan buddies, they could not find any violation. AU is not that good at hiding stuff, so that means there was no violation.
“Show me a good loser and I’ll show you a bus boy” – Woody Hayes
Once Auburn, always Auburn.
Cam was definitely the best player in the league this year. He was absolutely incredible to watch. He carried his average team to 17 wins and an NFC championship, gets the MVP award, then loses in the Super Bowl. It is incredibly unfair of us to disrespect the man because he was upset. Obviously, he has dreamt of winning a Super Bowl his whole life. None of us can imagine how painful it must have been to be forced to go talk to reporters after coming up short in the biggest moment of his entire life. It isn’t his job to talk to reporters. His job is to play football. The internet didn’t form an angry mob all the time Marshawn Lynch chose to not speak to reporters, but the hatred of Cam Newton is just ridiculous. So many people call this the “No Fun League” then ridicule one of the only players who actually appears to have fun playing football. Everyone can lay off of him.
prepping us for when your QB becomes a prick in the near future?
Since SDS decided they had to delete (they call it moderate) my post with a link to this story, I’ll copy and paste the gist of the short article on charlottestories.com here.
“For the first time in known NFL history, a post-game press conference was held where the QB of the losing team was being interviewed right next to the the key defensive player of the opposing team. The reason Cam may have had his hood up on his now famous Panther sweatshirt may have been to try to block out the insults.
Denver corner Chris Harris, who has been vocal about Cam in the past, is talking bad about Cam’s performance right in Cam’s ear. Instead of hearing the interviewers, Cam was hearing Chris yell, “…throw the ball, can you throw the ball?”
It seems clear that Cam didn’t leave because of the media – he left because he wanted to be the bigger man as the opposition continued to insult his performance.”
Like I said earlier, I did not see the press conference, but if this is the way the presser was set up then the ones setting it up should hold a fair amount of blame. I can’t say how Cam might have handled a presser the way they are usually done, and should be done, but this added insult to injury for no reason. I probably would have walked out and I suspect many NFL QBs would not have even walked in.
Good post. But that’s what happens when a big trash talker loses to another trash talker. A bigger man would have stayed at the interview and showed humility and humbleness after a while the other trash talker would have looked like the loser. This country has always liked seeing trash talkers get a taste of their own medicine. I hope Cam learns from this.
He did a hell-of-a lot better than what I’d have done if I were in his shoes.
If it were me, I’d walk out with course language.
